Hello, Parents!
In test prep, the students are the stars, and we are the supporting players.
But parents and other adults also have important roles to play, and I want to help you understand what the Test Prep Coaching process entails.
Below, I've laid out information about 14 key aspects of my services as they relate to my SAT and ACT Test Prep Coaching programs.
In addition to coaching high school students in their SAT and ACT preparation, I help younger students prepare for the PSAT, ISEE, SSAT, and SHSAT.
If you are interested in scheduling a free consultation, please click here to schedule a time for us to speak.
If you have any questions, please fill out the form on the Contact page or send me an e-mail.

1. FREE 30-MINUTE CONSULTATION: PARENT
The parent consultation gives you the opportunity to share your perspective on where your student is in the test prep process, discuss your goals for the program, and determine a program structure that will meet the needs of you and your student.
Once you and I have spoken, I will send you a link to schedule your student's consultation.

2. FREE 30-MINUTE CONSULTATION: STUDENT
The student consultation gives your student and me the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss your student's progress to date, goals for the future, and a plan to achieve these goals. This is also an opportunity for me to answer your student's questions about the SAT and ACT process and to discuss what the student should do in preparation for our first formal session.
3. REVIEWING TEST CONTENT
The formal Test Prep Coaching program begins with intensive work on one of the sections of the SAT or ACT. We usually start with a section requiring content knowledge—Math or English (ACT) / Writing and Language (SAT)
I have created thorough outlines covering the math and grammar topics assessed in the SAT and ACT, as well as a study guide for the ACT's Science section.
Talking through the outlines together reinforces a student's understanding of the concepts underlying the test questions on the SAT and ACT and provides us with a shared vocabulary with which to discuss the concepts as they arise in the test.
Once we have reviewed a subject, I begin assigning homework within that section.
In pacing the program, I collaborate with the student to make strategic decisions about when to add the next test section. We consider a student's confidence with the material we've already covered as well as time constraints, such as the student's upcoming official test date and the number of sessions we will work together.

"One of my favorite things about working with you was being given the outlines. They had so many techniques and rules that made sense. I enjoyed going through them with you because you explained them all to me and gave me a refresher in the basics that I needed to know."
—Gracie
4. MATERIALS
In addition to my outlines, we use the official SAT or ACT prep book, as well as official tests from my collection that you cannot find in bookstores. Official tests are far and away the best resource in preparing for the exams.
To supplement the official materials, students may buy prep books published by companies other than ACT or The College Board.
Your student should also have a digital watch and a calculator, both separate from the student's phone or smart watch, to use while prepping and on test day.

5. HOMEWORK
I assign homework that reinforces the concepts we reviewed in each session. For example, if we work on grammar rules, I assign an English or Writing & Language section for homework.
Initially, when we are working on only one section, homework will be limited so that the student can learn the relevant content. As we get further along in the program and work on additional sections, homework assignments will become increasingly time-intensive, until I am assigning half or whole tests to be completed between sessions. This requires up to four hours of homework.
To maximize the number of days students spend working on test prep, they should complete homework on days we do not meet.

6. COMMUNICATION
I provide you with regular email updates on your student's progress. These updates may include test scores, reviewed concepts, goals moving forward, and my general observations. I am happy to schedule a time to talk when we feel a conversation would be useful.
7. SESSION LENGTH & FREQUENCY
Test Prep Coaching packages consist of 12 sessions. Students participating in Test Prep Coaching packages meet with me once or twice a week. Either pace allows students the opportunity to receive consistent feedback and maintain a strong, positive momentum. At the outset of your student's package, you will decide between sessions lasting 1.5 or 2 hours. If you would like to add additional sessions or extend the length of scheduled sessions, you will be invoiced for the additional time upon scheduling.
Outside of a coaching package, coaching sessions require no ongoing commitment. They may take place regularly or as periodic check-ins in support of your student's independent prep program. Sessions may be 1.5 or 2 hours.

8. SESSION LOCATION & ONLINE COACHING
I live in New York City and am available to meet with a limited number of students in person within Manhattan. I meet with students in their homes or in a comfortable public space, such as a casual restaurant, from which we can work at a table for a couple of hours.
I work in person only with students who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Because of advancements in video communication technologies, online coaching enables students to receive the same benefits through online coaching as they receive in person. Online coaching takes place at a significant discount over in-person coaching.

10. SCHEDULING
For students participating in a coaching package, we reserve times for all 12 sessions at the outset of your program.
If you are not purchasing a coaching package, we will schedule each session upon my receipt of payment for that session.
All sessions are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Sessions may be rescheduled up to 24 hours before their scheduled start time. The further in advance that I know of a student's need to reschedule a session, the more likely that we will be able to find another meeting time that also works well for the student. Similarly, the further in advance I know of a student's desire for additional sessions, the more likely that the student will be able to retain his or her weekly time slot or that we will be able to find another workable time.
Regular weekly coaching sessions are available Monday through Thursday between 10 am and 8:30 pm (Eastern Time). Contact me with inquiries about weekend availability.
I reserve Friday afternoons for sessions that require rescheduling, should there not be another workable time available Monday through Thursday.

11. LEARNING DIFFERENCES & ADHD
I have experience working with students with a variety of learning differences, including ADHD, that require the student to work under extended time.
In my work with all students, I seek to identify their individual learning styles and adapt my recommendations accordingly.
Students can often apply the techniques that I teach to their school work.

I do not offer money-back guarantees or make official predictions of how you can expect your student to score.
13. REFERENCES
I will happily provide you with the names and contact information of the parents of former students. You may also review the Testimonials page.
